In short

Airwaves Facilities Management carries out commercial tree work across the UK. We prune, reduce and safely remove trees, survey them, respond to storm damage and fallen branches, and plant replacements. Emergency tree call-outs are taken 24 hours a day with a four-hour target response.

Information on tree services

Tree work we carry out

Pruning, removal, surveys and storm response, including protected trees.

Pruning, Reduction & Shaping

Crown lifting, reduction and thinning, and removal of dead or diseased branches, to keep a tree healthy and to stop it obstructing roads, pathways, windows and buildings.

Safe Tree Removal

Felling and dismantling with minimal disruption to what is around it. On confined or built-up sites this means sectional dismantling rather than straight felling, and specialist lifting where access is tight.

Storm & Emergency Response

Fallen trees and hanging branches made safe. We take reactive call-outs 24 hours a day and aim to respond within four hours.

Deadwood & Hazard Management

Removing dead, damaged or unstable limbs before they become an incident. This is the work that is cheap in February and expensive in November.

Tree Surveys & Inspections

Assessment of tree stock and condition, for insurers, managing agents and anyone who needs to show the trees on their site have been looked at by someone competent.

Stump Treatment & Replacement Planting

Dealing with what is left, and replanting where a tree needs replacing rather than just removing. Arisings chipped or removed, and the ground left usable.

What's included

How tree work is handled

  1. We look at the tree before we quote

What species, what condition, what is underneath it and what is overhead. Access and drop zone decide the method far more often than the tree does.

  2. We check what protections apply, and we handle protected trees

A Tree Preservation Order means written consent from the council before any work. A tree in a conservation area without a TPO still needs a section 211 notice giving the council six weeks’ notice, though works to trees under 75mm diameter, and removing deadwood from a living tree, are exempt. We work on protected trees regularly and will tell you what applies to yours before anything starts. (General legal position rather than advice on your particular tree.)

  3. We plan the drop and the protection

Exclusion zones, protection of what is beneath, and traffic or pedestrian management where the tree overhangs a road or a path.

  4. Qualified people, vetted before they arrive

Everyone who carries out tree work for us holds the relevant qualifications for it, and is vetted before they set foot on your site.

  5. Specialist lifting where it is needed

Where a tree cannot be dropped, it comes down in sections. We have used a spider crane with a vacuum lifter attachment on constrained city-centre work, and cranes and rigging are standard on larger controlled fells.

  6. Cleared and made good

Arisings chipped or taken away, and the site left usable.

Why choose us

Why us for tree services?

The two things that go wrong with tree work are the permission nobody checked and the drop nobody planned.

  • Emergency tree call-outs, 24 hours a day

A fallen tree does not wait for Monday. We take call-outs any hour with a four-hour target response, the phone is answered rather than diverted, and we usually beat the four hours.

  • We work on protected trees

TPOs and conservation area notices catch owners out constantly, and the penalty falls on the tree’s owner rather than the contractor. We handle protected trees regularly, and we tell you what applies to yours before anything starts.

  • We work to a school’s calendar, not ours

We pruned, cleared overhanging and damaged branches and managed vegetation around a school’s grounds, sports areas and access routes, finished before the pupils came back. A deadline you cannot move is its own kind of specification.

  • We dismantle where we cannot fell

On tight or built-up sites the tree comes down in sections, with the drop zone planned and what is underneath protected.

  • Specialist lifting when access is the problem

We have used a spider crane with a 635kg vacuum lifter on constrained city-centre work at the Bullring, and cranes and rigging are standard on larger controlled fells.

  • Surveys as well as saws

We assess tree stock and condition and report on it, which is what insurers and managing agents usually want before they will sign anything off, and the cheapest way to find the problem trees before they find you.

  • Over 50 people, since 2017

Airwaves has been trading since March 2017 and the team is now more than fifty strong. Big enough to cover a national portfolio, small enough that you are not passed between account managers.

Before you enquire

Tree Services: your questions answered

A tree came down overnight. Can you come out?

Yes. We take reactive call-outs 24 hours a day and aim to respond within four hours. Call 0330 118 00 65 at any hour, or email info@airwavesfm.co.uk with photographs if you can.

Do I need permission to have a tree cut down?

Possibly, and we deal with protected trees regularly, so ask us rather than guessing. If the tree has a Tree Preservation Order you need the council’s written consent first. If it is in a conservation area without a TPO, the council must be given six weeks’ notice under a section 211 notice, though trees under 75mm in diameter, and removing deadwood from a living tree, are exempt. We will raise it when we survey. (General position under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, not advice on your particular tree.)

Do you carry out tree surveys?

Yes. We can assess tree stock and condition and report on it, which is what insurers and managing agents usually want before they will sign anything off. It is also the cheapest way to find the problem trees before they find you.

Can you remove a tree in a tight space?

Usually, by dismantling it in sections rather than felling it whole, with the drop zone planned and everything beneath protected. Where access is the real problem we have used a spider crane with a vacuum lifter on constrained city-centre sites.

What happens to the waste?

Chipped on site or taken away, and the ground left usable. It is in the price, not an extra.

Do you do the mowing and beds as well?

Not on this service. Lawns, beds, hedges and hard surfaces are grounds maintenance. If you have a whole site of trees to manage against a specification, that is arboriculture and vegetation works.

Are you insured for tree work?

We carry public liability insurance and hold ISO 9001:2015, CHAS, SafeContractor and Constructionline. Certificates are downloadable from our certifications page.

Not quite what you need?
