In short

Airwaves Facilities Management provides commercial gardening and planting across the UK for offices, retail, industrial parks and managed residential sites. We handle seasonal planting, bed design and replanting, and garden clearance. Where a client wants the whole site looked after rather than just the gardens, that is our grounds maintenance service.

Information on gardening services

Gardening work we take on

The horticultural half: what goes in the ground, and whether it will still be there in five years.

Seasonal Planting

Spring bulbs, summer bedding and winter structure, chosen for the site’s aspect and soil rather than for what looked good in the catalogue. Planned so something is doing the work in every season, not just July.

Bed Design & Replanting

Reworking tired or overgrown beds: clearing, improving the soil, and replanting with species suited to the position and to how much maintenance you want to commit to afterwards. At Aviva in Chandler’s Ford we built sleeper beds filled with established flowers and plants, with more planting at ground level around them.

Planting Schemes for Commercial Frontages

Entrances, reception approaches and car park borders. The planting a visitor actually sees, which is usually the planting that has had the least thought.

Garden Clearance

Overgrown areas, fallen leaves, branches and debris cleared and removed, whether as a one-off or ahead of a replanting scheme.

Tree & Shrub Planting

Selection and planting of new trees and shrubs to establish or replace stock. For larger programmes assessed against site conditions, that is our arboriculture and vegetation works team.

Ongoing Garden Maintenance

Mowing, edging, aerating and feeding to keep planted areas in condition. Where you want the whole site covered on a fixed cycle, grounds maintenance is the better fit and usually the better value.

What's included

How a planting job runs

  1. We look at the site before we choose the plants

Aspect, soil, drainage and how much sun a bed actually gets. A scheme that ignores the conditions often only looks good for one season, and then you are back to square one

  2. We plan for the maintenance you will accept

There is no point specifying planting that needs weekly attention if the site gets visited monthly. We would rather design to your actual schedule than hand you something that fails slowly.

  3. Clearance and soil preparation

Existing growth cleared, soil improved and beds prepared. Planting into unprepared ground is the most common reason a scheme does not establish.

  4. Planting and establishment

Planted, watered in and checked. New planting needs attention in its first season, and we agree who is doing that before we leave site.

  5. Green waste removed

Clearance and arisings taken away on completion, not bagged up and left by the bins.

Included as standard

  • Site assessment before species selection
  • Soil preparation and clearance
  • Planting, watering in, and an agreed establishment plan
  • All equipment supplied
  • Green waste removed on completion
  • Before-and-after photography
I have been using Airwaves FM for many years now. Steve and the team are fantastic, professional, time conscientious and a pleasure to work with.

Why choose us

Why us for gardening services?

Most commercial planting fails and dies, just months later, because nobody checked the soil before choosing the plants.

  • We choose plants for the site, not the catalogue

Aspect, soil and drainage assessed before anything is specified. A scheme that ignores the conditions is a scheme you replant.

  • We design to the maintenance you will actually get

If the site is visited monthly, the planting has to survive monthly. In the Aviva courtyard that meant weed membrane under natural bark chippings and established plants, a finish built to stay tidy without constant attention.

  • Planting and upkeep from the same team

The people who plant it can be the people who maintain it, on whatever interval you set, weekly through to quarterly.

  • Vetted, trained operatives

Everyone we send is vetted and trained, with safeguarding training as well as health and safety.

  • All the equipment comes with us

Nothing for you to buy, store or maintain.

  • We clear up properly

Arisings and green waste removed on completion, and before-and-after photography supplied as standard.

  • Over 50 people, since 2017

Airwaves has been trading since March 2017 and the team is now more than fifty strong. Big enough to cover a national portfolio, small enough that you are not passed between account managers.

Before you enquire

Gardening Services: your questions answered

What is the difference between this and grounds maintenance?

Gardening is just the gardens. Grounds maintenance is all of the grounds: mowing, hedges, hard surfaces, clearance, winter gritting, the lot. A grounds contract may well include the gardening within it; this page is for when the gardens are what you actually want looking after, or when you want them treated as their own piece of work.

Can you plan planting across the seasons?

Yes. Spring bulbs, summer bedding and winter structure, planned so the site is not bare for half the year. We will design it around the site’s aspect and soil and around how often we are visiting.

Will the planting survive our maintenance schedule?

That is the question we ask you before specifying anything. Planting that needs weekly attention on a site visited monthly is a scheme that fails, slowly and expensively. Tell us the realistic frequency and we will design to it.

Do you clear overgrown areas as a one-off?

Yes, with or without a contract, and with the green waste taken away rather than left on site.

Do you plant trees?

Yes. For a handful of trees, this is the service. For a managed tree stock across a site, or anything assessed against soil, moisture and light as a programme, that is arboriculture and vegetation works.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK. We are based at Berkswell in the West Midlands, but that is where we are rather than how far we go.

Outdoor work

Not quite what you need?

Five pages cover outdoor work, and each one does a different job.
